El Dorado Kitchen

We decided to eat here after an unsuccessful attempt to dine at The Girl & the Fig — we walked in, told the hostess we didn’t have reservations and she laughed us out of the restaurant. So we walked across the street to dine here. It wasn’t crowded at all during lunch and we were seated right away.

The interior has a comfortable, rustic feel with a partially open kitchen. They even have a kid’s menu.

We started with tuna tartare ($12) — plenty of fresh chunks of fish were complimented by bits of pears and accompanied by wonton chips. My wife enjoyed her risotto ($17) and my Maine lobster sandwich ($22) was equally as good. Served on a ciabatta roll with bacon, heirloom tomatoes, and arugula, the lobster was plentiful, sweet and meaty — although slightly overdressed. My kid, as usual, opted for the chicken tenders and seemed to like them (I didn’t try them, but the fries were pretty decent).

For beverages, my wife and I stuck to water, while the little guy started with a strawberry lemonade ($4) that was too tart for his tastes so I gladly finished it. Then he tried their hazelnut chocolate milk ($4), which also struck out for him due to it’s highly concentrated hazelnut/non-existent chocolate flavor. Two sips and he was done. I didn’t care for it either.

For $100, it was rather pricey but that’s to be expected for the area. Service was decent, if you like being waited on by a guy who appears to be tweaked out on something. At least the food was good.
